The New Duomo Opera Museum of Florence Cathedral Opens after Renewal
On October 29, 2015 the new Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence opens to the public after an important renovation. The museum is part of the artistic and architectural complex known as the Great Duomo (Cathedral) Museum and contains works of art from the sacred buildings of the Florence Cathedral, the Baptistery and Giotto's Bell Tower.
The Opera Museum exhibits the highest number of Florentine monumental sculpture in the world: Medieval and Renaissance statues and reliefs in marble, bronze and silver by the most prominent artists of the time, including Michelangelo, Arnolfo di Cambio, Donatello, Antonio Pollaiuolo, Luca della Robbia, Tino Camaino, Ghiberti, Verrocchio.
